We’re now over 6 months post-merger of HHDAS and CDAS so we thought it might be worthwhile providing a brief update on progress and plans. We have made efforts to communicate important issues such as water closures etc as we’ve gone along through e-mails via Clubmate and our social media pages (which we’d encourage you all to use) but thought a quick round-up might be useful in case you’ve missed anything

Thanks for reading, tight lines and we hope to provide regular updates in the future.

Your MSA Committee

Announcements

March 2026
Annual General Meeting
We have scheduled our first AGM for September 3rd  (7:30pm start) which will be held at Balcombe Social Club. Other details and agenda to follow nearer the time but please note the date in your diaries
Anti-social behaviour/littering

We are aware of some instances of anti-social behaviour (particularly at Balcombe Lake) and litter remains a problem. Please report any instances to us – either via email or using the ‘MSA Hotline’ 01444 500195  (call or WhatsApp), and please help us by picking up any litter you see on our venues – remember, if it’s in your peg, it’s deemed to be yours whether you left it there or not.  We are taking other action in relation to unacceptable behaviour but it’s important we are advised of any instances that occur.  We have also appointed 3 new bailiffs who will be focusing primarily on Balcombe.

For the avoidance of doubt, any action that causes a problem for the club, your fellow anglers, our landowners or the general public including generally bringing the club into disrepute will be treated very seriously and we will not hesitate to take disciplinary action, up to and including lifetime bans from MSA and advising neighbouring clubs with whom we work closely to protect the sport.

Merger Activity

March 2026

We believe we’ve made good progress in the first few months. The Executive Committee is now fully established and operating effectively with a full complement of officers, monthly meetings and a clear and closely-managed action list. We have a single instance of Clubmate through which membership and communication are managed, we’ve changed the name of the limited company to Mid Sussex Angling Ltd, aligned and simplified membership categories, largely completed the integration of our banking and finance arrangements and are working on making sure our freeholds are properly registered. New club signage has been erected at most venues (work in progress) and our website (www.midsussexangling.com) is fully up and running including new, more detailed maps and venue information. All of this, plus Club rules, match booking/results, gate codes and our online shop etc are all available on the Clubmate app.

Membership

March 2026

Clubmate is working well for the vast majority but if you have any issues please do contact us. Our numbers have grown rapidly since the merger which we hope is a reflection of the excellent value for money offered through our range of waters and quality of fishing.

As you may have noticed we have moved to a 12-month rolling membership, and no longer offer half-season tickets or Piltdown-only memberships. Many of you will have membership expiry dates linked to the old system and should receive renewal reminders in due course (particularly legacy CDAS members due for renewal on June 1st) but we’d encourage you to check your membership renewal date in Clubmate just in case. We’d also ask all members who haven’t done so to check they have an up to date profile picture in Clubmate – if you are a former member of HHDAS or CDAS you may need to log out and log back in to your MSA account.

Work Parties & Maintenance

March 2026

We’re approaching the lighter evenings so we will be starting these again in earnest very shortly – please do try to help out where you can as we are always grateful for extra volunteers – it’s a great way to meet other anglers/committee members, and the sessions are often followed by refreshments at a suitable watering hole. Details will be posted on our Facebook page in advance, usually on a weekly basis – if you have any particular skills that would be beneficial, please let us know but all extra hands are always welcome as we have an extensive programme of work that needs doing.

Despite the awful weather throughout the winter, we have still managed to clear a number of swims on the farside causeway/Hammer Point at Ardingly (so now fishable when the reservoir is full) and added a new gate, significantly improved the path at Wilderness, added siltex to the Road Lake and removed some trees at the complex and on 27/28 March will be undertaking major improvements to the car park at Balcombe Lake. Working closely with the Waterlife Recovery Trust, we have also captured several mink, particularly at Deak’s Lane and on the river.   We’re also working with SEW to secure the perimeter at Ardingly with new locks/chains to help restrict public access.

Club Matches

March 2026

Match attendances are thriving which is great to see – you can see all the match reports on Clubmate. We recognise most of our venues have limited capacity, so please make sure you book in advance via Clubmate for any that you wish to fish as places are limited and if you turn up on the day without booking there is a strong chance you won’t be able to fish. We have a match WhatsApp group  – if you wish to be added to that please let Adrian Westgate, Match Secretary, know.  We’d also encourage all members to check the match calendar (on Clubmate) when planning any session as waters are generally closed to other anglers on the day of any match.

Member Catch Highlights

March 2026

We are always delighted to receive details of any notable fish catches, especially with pictures. Please send us anything you wish using the usual media channels

Finally, just a reminder that the closed season is now in force on the river until June 16th unless you have purchased a trout fishing add-on (allowing you to fish for non-migratory trout with fly/lure only)

We’ll endeavour to provide updates on a periodic basis, but as always if there’s anything you think we should be doing or need to know, please get in touch via email (info@midsussexangling.com), Facebook messenger or phone/WhatsApp (01444 500195).
